Night’s Gaze

Night’s Gaze was inspired during a quiet moment spent in the woodland that backs onto my home. As I gazed into the mist, the bark of a tree began to form the shape of a faery elemental. I watched for some time, and the vision persisted. It was a precise combination of angle, leaves, and branches that created the form — yet this is where we often forget: these are not illusions, but the way faeries first reveal themselves. Subtle at first, almost shy, and then — once trust is established — they offer clearer signs, making their presence known more openly.

The style and tone of this painting are heavily inspired by Arthur Rackham, the 19th-century book illustrator. While painting, I couldn’t help but wonder whether he experienced moments of similar insight or inspiration — perhaps standing, as I was, within a faery circle in the woodland.
