I began with a toned canvas and simply gazed, waiting for shapes to surface from the textures. As the forms slowly emerged, I followed them—adding detail only where they guided me. Eventually, the beings revealed themselves fully. In many ways, the process feels like channeling; I’m simply the vessel the faeries choose to speak through. A closer look reveals even more: hidden faces, elemental beings, and subtle energies woven throughout the scene. This “hide and seek” with the unseen is the essence of all my work. If you look long enough, the magical world concealed within the ordinary begins to reveal itself — the very reason my gallery is called Hidden Realms. Where its predecessor was rooted in earth energy, this work rises into the air — bound to clouds and sky that reveal hidden words and meanings. If you look closely, you’ll find the word “Love” woven into the clouds, hidden yet in plain sight, easily missed unless you slow down and really look. Another recurring motif in my work is the number three. Here, three doves appear as messengers of love, watched over by a high celestial being, an archangelic presence that resides within the clouds. Floating on Love is another personal favourite of mine and has become a kind of good-luck charm for many people. It’s often chosen to mark a new beginning or relationship, or as a magical centrepiece to invite love into a space. If you look closely, you’ll find the word “Love” woven into the roots — hidden yet in plain sight, easily missed unless you slow down and really look. This idea became the foundation of the entire painting and the wider concept of Hidden Realms. Through the interplay of negative and positive space, many characters and forms emerge organically as the painting develops. They reveal themselves gradually, almost magically, which keeps me deeply engaged — especially as a painting can take weeks or even months to complete. I never fully know what the finished piece will look like until it’s done. House Built on Love is a personal favourite of mine and has become a kind of good-luck charm for many people — often chosen for a new home, or during redecorating, as a magical centrepiece to invite love into a space. While attending a festival in Glastonbury, Somerset, I encountered a man wearing the most extraordinary outfit and felt an immediate urge to ask his permission to paint him. After introducing myself, he revealed that his alter ego was The King of the Pixies. As we talked, we discovered an astonishing coincidence: we had grown up just two streets apart in a small town in Kent — some 160 miles away. From that first meeting, it felt as though an ancient affinity had been reawakened, and we quickly formed a bond like brothers. I took photographs of him that day to use as reference, and over the following months, as I worked on the painting, a series of remarkable synchronicities unfolded. While researching pixie folklore, I learned that pixies are said to be enchanted by the songs of frogs and crickets. Wanting to include these creatures for authenticity, I realised I would need reference images — and at that exact moment, a cricket leapt into my studio, landing on the draughtsman’s table where I was painting. Astonished, I slowly reached for my camera and captured several photographs. To me, it was a clear sign that I was on the right path. It was a precise combination of angle, leaves, and branches that created the form — yet this is where we often forget: these are not illusions, but the way faeries first reveal themselves. Subtle at first, almost shy, and then — once trust is established — they offer clearer signs, making their presence known more openly. The style and tone of this painting are heavily inspired by Arthur Rackham, the 19th-century book illustrator. While painting, I couldn’t help but wonder whether he experienced moments of similar insight or inspiration — perhaps standing, as I was, within a faery circle in the woodland.
